The Commercialization of PURE Control® -- as Direct Food Contact
Food Safety Solution into $300+ Million US Market Segment -- Begins This Quarter
SAN DIEGO (Jan. 5, 2016) - PURE Bioscience, Inc. (OTCQB: PURE), creator of the EPA and FDA approved, patented silver dihydrogen citrate (SDC) antimicrobial, today announced that the FDA has completed its review of the safety and efficacy of the proposed use of silver dihydrogen citrate (SDC) as a fresh produce processing aid and declared PURE Bioscience’s food contact notification (FCN) to be effective as of January 7, 2016. SDC is the active ingredient in PURE Control®.
When compared with the toxic processing aids used in the market today, dramatic SDC test results show consistent and materially significant reductions in the pathogens most frequently associated with foodborne illness outbreaks traced to processed produce (including Salmonella, E. coli and Listeria). A breakthrough technology, SDC is a highly effective, non-toxic food safety solution, which is safe for both people and the environment.
Hank R. Lambert, CEO of PURE said, “Attaining FDA approval as a direct food contact processing aid for fresh produce is a second catalytic milestone for PURE. The Company recently (December 18, 2015) also received FDA approval for our powerful SDC antimicrobial technology for use as a raw poultry processing aid.
“Fresh produce processors continue to combat prevalent contaminants (including Salmonella, E. coli and Listeria) that have persisted through processing. We believe that SDC-based PURE Control will be a superior and non-toxic food safety alternative. PURE Control can go a long way toward alleviating many of the foodborne illness outbreaks like those recently experienced by leading retailers and restaurant chains, as reported in the press, that were linked to produce processors. Both human health and brand reputation are at risk. Retailers, restaurant chains and suppliers are seeking opportunities to be safety leaders – and PURE Control offers a means to make food safer for consumers.”
The PURE Control® Solution
PURE believes that it has the opportunity to capture a meaningful share of the $300+ million US market for produce processing aids and that PURE Control can play a significant role in preventing foodborne illness by dramatically reducing the risk of pathogens in produce processing.
PURE Control will be applied as a spray or dip on produce intended for processing.
The Company has been proactively engaged in both “push” and “pull” sales and marketing initiatives with US produce processors, retailers, and distributors to prime demand for PURE Control. Among these are some of the largest vegetable and fruit processors, grocery and restaurant chains.
Also, PURE is already leveraging its existing foothold with a number of major produce and fruit processors who are using its SDC-based PURE® Hard Surface disinfectant for environmental sanitation. It is expected that these users will be early adopters of PURE Control.
Produce – The Leading Source of Foodborne Illness in the US
The combination of the immediate market need plus the proven superior efficacy of SDC, leads PURE to believe that it can achieve relatively quick and meaningful market penetration among US fruit and vegetable processors.
About PURE Bioscience, Inc.
PURE Bioscience, Inc. is focused on developing and commercializing our proprietary antimicrobial products primarily in the food safety arena -- providing solutions to the health and environmental challenges of pathogen and hygienic control. Our technology platform is based on patented stabilized ionic silver, and our initial products contain silver dihydrogen citrate, or SDC. SDC is a broad-spectrum, non-toxic antimicrobial agent, which offers 24-hour residual protection and formulates well with other compounds. As a platform technology, SDC is distinguished from existing products in the marketplace because of its superior efficacy, reduced toxicity and the inability of bacteria to form a resistance to it. PURE is headquartered in El Cajon, California (San Diego metropolitan area). Additional information on PURE is available at www.purebio.com.
